Katol is an ancient town referred to as kuntalapur in ancient literature. This historical town is a Tahsil place in Nagpur District of Maharashtra State.

It is well connected by vail and road to big cities like Bhopal, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Banglore, Jaipur, Mumbai, Raipur, Bhilai and Kolkatta.

The weather remains pleasant through out the year which average rainfall of 80-90 cms.

The town is very peaceful, with many educational institutions of higher education. The town was in forefront in freedom struggle. Educational awareness in very high in the population with very high vote of literacy even in villages around this town.

Shikshan Mahavidyalaya, Katol was established in the year 1984 under aegis of Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Katol.

The College imparts education leading to degree to bachelor of education. It is affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. The College has been bestowed with permanent affiliation of the University on account of its Merit.

Since its inception it has progressed by leaps and bounds. It has its own independent building with well-furnished and equipped Lecturer Hall, Laboratories, Library and all students amenities.

The College has a tradition of very good result of University examination. The average result of all the years is above 95 % every year these students appearing in the Merit list of the RTM Nagpur University so for 65 students have recorded their names in the Merit list. The College is also on forefront in extra curricular activities and in organizing social activities. In 1992 the College successfully organized a National level Conference on education.
To cater the need of rural people of the region for the primary and secondary education, a diploma course in education is started from the year 2005. We have started construction a separate huge modern building for running B.Ed. and D.Ed. courses. The motto of our College is produce quality teachers who can lead but the countryman from evils of illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, bad tradition and customs, narrow-mindedness etc. in R.N.Tagore words we want to build India where the mind is without fear and the head is held high.
